Muses for the Holiday Season - 2019
On Children…
Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them. – Lady Bird Johnson
Children must be taught how to think not what to think. – Margaret Mead
Children need models rather than critics. – Joseph Joubert
Each day of our lives we make deposits into the memory banks of our children. – Charles R. Swindoll
On America…
We must never remain silent in the face of bigotry. We must condemn those who seek to divide us. In all quarters and at all times, we must teach tolerance and denounce racism, anti-Semitism and all ethnic or religious bigotry wherever they exist as unacceptable evils. We have no place for haters in America -- none, whatsoever. - Ronald Reagan
On the Houston Astros…
Thank you for giving us another great season!
On Media…
May people take note to follow media sources that choose not to view mankind solely through a myopic lens of negativity and sensationalism, but with a fuller perspective that includes goodness, hope and positivity.
And might we question the sources of social media that we choose to allow into our daily lives and those of our children, via smart phone, television and radio stations? Is it good? Is it making you a better person? Is it true, right and salutary and not furthering a phony and largely negative perspective of the world?
On Mistakes...
When you make a mistake, there are only three things you should ever do about it: admit it, learn from it, and don’t repeat it. – Paul Bear Bryant
Repent to the person whom you’ve offended, followed by true confession and repentance towards that person, that you’ll do everything in your power not to repeat the mistake again.
We make mistakes, but how we correct them defines us.
You can’t make the same mistake twice. The second time you make it, it’s no longer a mistake.
On the New Year
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every New Year find you a better person. - Benjamin Franklin
Wishing you God’s blessings and peace in the New Year! NLR
